How to Treat Boiler Water
Knowing how to treat your water boiler can make the difference between having warm water in the morning and increasing your gas output without results. Along with increasing your boiler's efficiency, the boiler treatment can help reduce boiler's fuel usage, minimize the amount of future boiler maintenance and protect the boiler from harmful corrosion. Things You'll Need
- Rubber gloves
- Screwdriver
- Wrench
- 1 cup lime softening
- 1 cup soda ash
- Fresh water

Use rubber gloves to locate and pull the off switch on your boiler. The boiler is located outside or in a closet in your house.

Take the clarifier off the water boiler with a screwdriver and wrench. The clarifier boiler resembles a downward-type funnel.

Add the chemical treatment to the clarifier. Lime softening and soda ash add calcium and magnesium to the water, which can soften hard water. The chemical goes through the water boiler, which, according to a boiler schematic, accesses the feed water tank, and then fix the boiler.

Replace the makeup water with fresh water. The makeup water is water that evaporated from the water boiler through the blowdown. Pour the fresh water into the clarifier to top of the boiler.

Replace the clarifier's top by screwing the screws, nuts and bolts into their rightful places. Flip the boiler's switch on to complete the treatment process.

You can also use other chemicals, such as phosphate, polymers and neutralizing amines.
