The 6.0-liter Chevrolet Vortec engine is used primarily in GM heavy-duty, full-size trucks and vans. It is included in the GM "LS" family of engines, which range from 4.8- to 7.0-liter displacements.

Design

The LS engines share the same 4.40-inch bore center-lines and transmission bellhousing bolt-patterns as the earlier Gen 1 and II small-block engines, but the engine is otherwise completely redesigned.

Displacement

The displacement of the 6.0-liter engine is achieved using a cylinder bore (the diameter of the piston) of 4.0 inches and a stroke (the distance of bottom-to-top piston travel) of 3.62 inches. This yields a displacement of 364 cubic inches.

Power Output

The 6.0-liter LS engine produces 300 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 360 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. It has a maximum engine speed of 5,600 rpm.
