How Do I Take an Aquabot Apart?
Owning an aquabot or similar product saves endless hours of maintenance time for pool owners. However, aquabots occasionally need maintenance of their own. Like other pool cleaners, this often means opening up or even taking apart the device for cleaning or part replacement. Fortunately, disassembling an aquabot can be done with the proper tools and instructions. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Needle-nose pliers
- Philips screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Small socket set
- 15/16 size wrench
- Old towel
- Latex gloves
- Flat-bottomed bowl
Instructions

Take It Apart
-
1
Spread out the old towel and set the aquabot in the middle. If any oil spills or if the parts are dirty, the towel keeps the mess off your floor or patio. If you wish to disassemble the aquabot on grass, the towel also prevents parts from becoming lost.
-
2
Turn the aquabot upside down and open the filter panel. Remove the filter bag from the aquabot.
-
-
3
Unscrew the sideplate of the aquabot (on the motor side) and remove it. Also remove the wheels and drive belts.
-
4
Take out the screws and remove the pump (the round black object). The electric terminal will be next to it and there will likely be a dark lining made from putty. Scrape off the putty and use a socket to remove the terminal nuts. Use the pliers to remove the power cord and wires that you will see attached to the terminal.
The Motor
-
5
Remove the two or four motor screws that can be seen from the outside of the aquabot. Once fully unscrewed, remove the motor and place it in the flat-bottomed bowl in case of oil spillage.
-
6
Remove the eight screws that line the top of the motor (the square side). Lift off the top.
-
7
Remove the metal lid underneath, but carefully because wires will still be attached. The circuit board will be visible and it will be covered in oil.
-
8
Use the 15/16 size wrench to remove the axle nut on the bottom of the motor case. The entire circuit board and motor can be lifted out.
-
9
Use the pliers to unattach the wires if you wish to get a closer look. You can now replace the motor or continue inspection.

Tips & Warnings
Wearing latex gloves allows for mobility of your hands while keeping them clean.
To decrease the risk of electrocution or product damage, always make sure the aquabot is unplugged and dry before you open it up.
If any parts are damaged or warped when removed, the aquabot may not be able to be reassembled.
