How to Add a Power Antenna to a 1997 Miata Radio
If you turn on your Mazda Miata radio and the power antenna doesn't raise up, it is likely the result of a bad motor in the antenna assembly. The best remedy is to replace the antenna altogether. Even if you don't spend a lot of time working on your car, you'll be surprised at how little auto knowledge it takes to install a power antenna.

1
Open the hood of your Miata and locate the area where the antenna meets the top of the car. Underneath this area is the antenna compartment.
-
2
Use an antenna wrench (available from most auto-supply stores) to loosen the metal bezel at the top of the antenna compartment. Slide the bezel off of the antenna and set it aside.
-
-
3
Tilt the tip of the antenna down and slide it out of the compartment. Unplug the wires from the base assembly of the power antenna and set the old antenna aside.
-
4
Connect the wires to the ports on the bottom of the new antenna and slide the antenna into the compartment, base first.
-
5
Slide the antenna all the way into the compartment until it can't go any further and slide the bezel over the antenna. Use your antenna wrench to secure the bezel and secure the new power antenna to the Miata.
