Instructions for Knitting on a Round Toilet Paper Loom
Knitting on a round loom is an ancient craft, with the Vikings having the first known examples of the craft. In the earlier part of the 20th century spool knitting, as it was known, was a popular craft for children. This simple knitting method produces long knitted cords that can be used for clothing, belts and other craft items. Instead of using wooden spools and nails for your knitting tool, create one with a toilet paper roll and six craft sticks. Glue the sticks equal distances apart all around the roll, with 1 inch of each stick standing up above the rim. Allow the glue to dry, and then your loom is ready to use. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Thread one end of the yarn through the center of the roll, from the end with the sticks down through the other end. Bring the end of the yarn out of the roll and tape it to the outside of the knitter near the bottom. This will temporarily hold the end of the yarn in place until the knitted piece gets longer.
-
2
Wrap the yarn clockwise around one of the sticks at the top end of the roll. Turn the roll clockwise until the next stick is in front of you. Wrap the yarn clockwise around this stick. Continue in this manner until you have wrapped the yarn around all six sticks.

3
Lay the yarn across the front of the first stick so it lays above the loop that's already on it. Grasp the loop with a crochet hook or pointed skewer and bring it up over the upper yarn, toward the back of the stick, and then pull it over the stick tip. This creates one knitted stitch, leaving a loop in the front again.

4
Lay the yarn across the front of the next stick and create another knitted stitch just as you did with the first one. Continue making one stitch per stick, going around and around. This will eventually create a knitted cord down the center hole of the tube. Continue on in this manner until the knitted cord is the length you desire. Remove the tape from the beginning string when the cord reaches the bottom of the tube.

5
Cut your yarn about 6 inches from the knitting when your cord is the desired length. Weave the end of the yarn through each stitch and then pull the stitch off the stick. Do this with all six sticks and then pull the yarn end tightly to secure it. Weave this yarn end in with the knitting to hide the tail.
