How to Decorate Bedrooms With Animal Prints

Animal prints add a bit of whimsy to a sophisticated room.

Animal prints are bold and add a bit of fun to any home. Tiger, zebra and cheetah prints, when used conservatively, are appropriate for even the most sophisticated of rooms. Keep in mind that when decorating with animal prints it is easy to go overboard. Add too much animal print and your room will go quickly from classy to cheesy. Bedrooms provide ample opportunity to use animal print decor.

Instructions

1. Choose one animal print to use as the primary print for the room. While you may choose to complement this fabric with small touches of other animal prints, if you use large amounts of multiple fabrics, the animal theme will become overwhelming.

2. Use fabrics in your bedroom that are luxurious. If there is any room in your home where it is appropriate to splurge on quality fabric, the bedroom is it. You want to be comfortable in your bedroom, so fabric quality is important, particularly if the animal prints are going to be on your bed. Faux fur is appropriate for use on a bedspread or throw pillows.

3. Cover your bed or headboard in animal print to make the largest statement. An animal print bedspread is complemented nicely with throw pillows of a matching animal print or solid colors. If you are using zebra print, the black and white fabric is well suited to be matched with brightly colored throw pillows that add a punch of color, such as red or lime green.

4. Upholster a chair or ottoman in your bedroom in an animal print to make a statement without covering the bed. Again, throw pillows in an animal print or solid color works well with the animal motif on the chair. And, feel free to add animal print throw pillows to your bed in this scenario.

5. Use animal-printed rugs in a bedroom to draw the eye downward. If you are renting your space, and unable to paint the room an interesting color, this tactic will distract from your bland walls. If an animal-printed floor covering is used, it is a good idea to keep the other animal prints in the room to a minimum. A huge cheetah or zebra rug is an especially bold statement on its own.
