How to Reset the ABS in a Dodge Ram

The Ram is Dodge's full-sized pickup truck. The truck was originally released in 1981 and continues to be sold today. In 1989 rear ABS, or anti-lock braking system, became standard on the truck. The ABS prevents the wheels of the truck from ceasing to rotate or "locking up" while the driver is braking. Locking up the wheels can cause a loss of control. Sometimes when the ABS system is activated, a warning light will illuminate on your dashboard panel. You can reset this light by disconnecting the battery.
Step 1
Open the hood on your Dodge Ram and prop it up with the hood prop.
Step 2
Loosen the nut on the clamp of the negative battery cable using the socket wrench.
Step 3
Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal by sliding it up and off the battery.
Step 4
Reconnect the battery cable after 15 seconds have passed. Re-tighten the nut so that the cable is secure once again. The 15-second wait resets the ABS so now the light will be off.

Warnings
- Be careful not to shock yourself when disconnecting the battery cable. Do not let the wrench come into contact with any metal portion of the vehicle except for the nut you are removing.
