How to Hang From a Wall Anchor
When hanging a heavy item on your wall, the most secure way is to find a wall stud. However, what should you do if there is no wall stud in the area? This is when you would use a wall anchor. Wall anchors are inserted through a hole you drill in your drywall. They help support the heavy item so that it does not damage your drywall or fall off the wall. Mark the location where you will install the wall anchor. Select a drill bit with the same diameter as the shaft of the wall anchor. The diameter will be found on the wall anchor's packaging.

Drill a pilot hole through the drywall using the correct size drill bit. Put the wall anchor into the wall and gently tap it with a hammer so that the head is flush with the surface of the drywall.

Insert a screw into the hole in the center of the wall anchor. Turn the screw until it is partially embedded in the wall anchor. Position the hanging bracket of the item over the head of the screw. Gently lower the item onto the screw.

Certain wall anchors are threaded which allows you to screw them directly into the drywall without drilling a pilot hole.
