How Long to Cool an Unplugged GE Profile?

William Pullman

GE Profile refrigerators require a cooling off period when you first plug them in after being unplugged for a long period of time. Your food items may go bad if you use the refrigerator prior to it cooling off.

Types

GE Profile is a line of home appliances, including refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers and washer/dryers, that feature a contemporary, metallic look. Refrigerators in the GE Profile line come in several designs, including side-by-side, freezer on the bottom and freezer on the top. The time needed to cool off each refrigerator design is the same.

Time Frame

When first plugging in a GE Profile refrigerator, or when plugging it in after it was unplugged, wait at least 24 hours for the refrigerator to sufficiently cool off. Placing perishable items in the refrigerator before the refrigerator has cooled off may not keep them fresh.

Considerations

The 24-hour time frame needed to cool off your GE Profile refrigerator before it is ready for use applies to refrigerators that are run at the preset refrigerator temperature. If you change the temperature to a lower setting, the amount of time needed for the refrigerator to cool off is increased.
