How do I Repair a Noisy Central Vac?

A noisy central vacuum can make your household or commercial cleaning disruptive and less productive. Usually, when disposable bags are full to capacity the noise gets louder. Additionally, uneven "hose-to-canister" or inlet connections can cause the central vacuum to emit more reverberating sounds. Properly lined up hoses and canisters or inlets only make your central vacuum operate more quietly if those connections are securely fastened. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the disposable bag on a regular basis. Central vacuum suction noise is loudest when the bag is full. Turn off the vacuum, unplug it from its electrical power source, and then pull the metal clamps that secure the disposable bag outwards to remove it from inside of the vacuum.

    • 2

Verify that all hoses are properly inserted in the openings of each "hose-to-canister" or inlet connection. Noise could be caused by leaks around these areas. Line up each hose's end tab with its corresponding inlet's or canister's opening slot.

    • 3

Tighten up those loose connections. The sounds from the motor will not be muffled as much as it could be with loose hose connections. If necessary, use rubber couplings to stabilize the connections.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only use disposable bags that are recommended for your specific central vacuum brand and model.

  • Rubber seals can be ruined if you open an inlet or canister while the central vacuum is operating. Observe the connections while the machine is on, but turn it off prior to adjusting "hose-to-canister" or inlet connections.
