How to Apply for Senior Housing in Missouri
As people grow older, living by themselves in their homes or apartments becomes increasingly difficult. Senior citizens -- whether for financial or health reasons -- must often seek senior housing. Senior housing can mean a low-priced apartment, or assisted-living or a nursing home. Missouri helps senior citizens find senior housing by attempting to house them in complexes that cater to -- and are affordable for -- senior citizens.

Apply for Missouri Public Housing. If you're looking to live in an apartment complex or house by yourself and you don't have a lot of income, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development can help. Visit the public-housing agency contact information website to find the nearest Missouri public-housing agency.

Call the agency's listed number and ask what documentation you will need to bring in. Visit the agency and fill out an application. If a disability prevents you from filling out the application, an agent will assist you. Include your personal and financial information on the application. The housing agency handles the entire application process and determines if you qualify for public housing. If you do qualify, the agent will notify you via mail. You will likely be placed on a waiting list if you qualify.

Specify whether you want to search for an assisted-living home or nursing home. Visit the location in person and apply. According to Metlife, the 2010 average monthly rate for assisted-living communities was $3,300.
