The General Educational Development test is used to certify that a person is has mastered American or Canadian high school academic skills. The test covers social studies, mathematics, language arts and science. If you have taken the GED and lost your results or transcript, you can obtain a copy of your GED. The test is administered at local testing centers such as colleges, military and correctional facilities. Depending on where the test was administered, you can receive a copy of your GED within a few weeks.

Instructions

  1. Local Testing Center

      Locate the nearest GED testing center using the American Council on Education's online locator (see Resources). Access the online locator and enter your zip or postal code in the appropriate field. A list of testing centers will be displayed. Write down the address of the nearest center.

      Visit the testing center and ask for a GED request form. Depending on the testing facility, you may be required to present picture identification such as your state-issued driver's license or identification card.

      Complete and submit the request form. The form may ask for your Social Security number, date of GED testing and facility in which the exam was administered. After the request is processed, you will receive a copy of your GED at that time or by mail.

    Military, Overseas or Correctional Facility

      Complete the online GED Transcript Request form. The form is available on the American Council on Education's website.

      Print, sign and date the form. Review the form to ensure the information you entered is accurate. Correct and initial any errors you find.

      Mail the form to the GED testing center in Washington, D.C. Include a money order with the appropriate fee. The fee amount is located at the top of the request form. You can also pay by credit or debit card by entering your numbers on the request form.

    Other GED Testing Sites

      Locate the GED testing administrator responsible for the state in which you took the GED exam. The administrator may be the state's board of education.

      Access the administrator's website and download a GED Records Request form. Print the form.

      Complete the form by providing your personal information, including your name and Social Security number.

      Mail the request form and the required fee to the address listed. Depending on the administrator, acceptable forms of payment may include checks, debit or credit cards or money orders.
