How to Care for No-Wax Floors
Prior to no-wax floors, if you wanted your vinyl flooring to be shiny, it required periodic waxing. This included stripping off the old wax when it yellowed or dulled. No-wax flooring already has a shiny finish, making it easier to care for. To protect the wax-like finish, flooring manufacturers may recommend a special cleaner for their flooring. If you aren't sure what to use, select a mild, nonabrasive cleaner. Over time, the shiny finish may wear off. Revive the finish by applying a self-polishing wax that is water based. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove surface dirt by sweeping, dust mopping, or vacuuming. Don't use a straw broom, which can scratch the finish. Use a soft-bristled broom with a straight edge.
-
2
Mop the floor with the cleaner recommended by the floor manufacturer, and follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. If you're not using a cleaner recommended by the manufacturer, use a bucket of warm water with a little ammonia added. Follow the water-to-ammonia ratio recommended by the ammonia manufacturer, listed on the packaging.

Using clean, fresh water, rinse the floor to remove the ammonia solution. Dip the mop into a bucket of clean, warm water, wring out the mop, and run the mop over the surface of the floor.

If the flooring finish has worn off, apply a self-polishing wax designed for no-wax floors. Follow the manufacturer's application instructions. (You may never need to do this step.)
