How to Replace the Auxiliary Water Pump on a 1995 BMW 525i
The 5 Series is a line of luxury sedans manufactured by BMW. The 1995 525i model has an elegant shape and was considered one of the safest and most reliable cars of its time. It is powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an output of 189 horsepower. The auxiliary water pump plays an important role in keeping your 525i's engine running efficiently and therefore must be replaced if it fails.

Locate the position of the auxiliary water pump. The pump is located in the rear of the engine compartment directly below the heater valve. The auxiliary water pump is electrically operated and provides additional coolant circulation to the heater core of your BMW.

Drain the engine coolant. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the rear bulkhead in the engine compartment.

Remove the harness connector of the pump and the coolant hose that is attached to the water pump. Use a socket wrench to remove the mounting nuts from the heater valve. Remove the heater valve from the mounting, together with the auxiliary water pump.

Pull out the clamp from the auxiliary coolant pump and remove the pump from the heater valve. The installation process is the reverse of the removal. After you replace the auxiliary water pump, fill and bleed the cooling system.

Tips & Warnings
Disconnect the negative cable of your battery before performing any maintenance work on your engine, to prevent electrical shock or accidental starting. Remove the nut from the negative post with a box-end wrench. Lift the cable from your battery, move it outside of the battery box and close the lid of the battery box.
