How to Buy a Flexible Root Cutter for Clogged Drains
A flexible root cutter is a tool used by plumbers to do work on drains, both clogged and those working perfectly well. If you want to buy a flexible root cutter to help fix a clogged drain in your home, you need to start by measuring the dimensions of the drain in question. These tools are fitted very specifically for different sized drains, and buying a cutter too large or too small will not help you fix your problem. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use a screwdriver to remove the plastic or metal screen covering the end of your clogged drain (if applicable). Some drains may not have a screen. Some have a screen that pulls right off while others have a screwed-on screen that needs to be removed with a screwdriver.
-
2
Use a tape measure to find the diameter of the inside of your pipe. Drain pipes are circular in shape, and the diameter of a circle is the measurement of a line across the center. Do not measure the pipe itself; rather, measure the diameter of the drain pipe opening.

3
Round the measurement you found in step 2 to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For example, if your tape measure indicates that the diameter of the pipe is 2 inches plus a little less than 3/8 of an additional inch, round your measurement to 2 and 3/8 inches. The measurement you are left with is the size of the flexible root cutter you need to purchase for your specific clogged drain based on its dimensions.
