How to Repair a DEK Generator
A dirty air filter or a damaged spark plug can cause all sorts of problems for a DEK generator. Some of these problems can include the generator overheating, the generator's engine not starting and carburetor malfunctioning. If you notice any of these problems with your DEK generator, you can try cleaning the air filter or replacing the spark plug in order to solve them. Does this Spark an idea?

Clean the Air Filter

Unsnap the clips holding the air cleaner cover in place and remove the cover. Turn the cover over and remove the air filter.

Wash the filter in warm water and detergent. Squeeze the filter to remove excess water, then let it dry.

Soak the filter in oil, then squeeze it to remove excess oil and ensure that the entire filter is coated.

Place the filter back on the cover and put the cover back in place. Snap the clips back in place to secure the cover.
Replace the Spark Plug

Take off the spark plug cap and use a cloth to clean off any dirt around the spark plug.

Take a spark plug wrench (such as the BPR5ES (NGK) or the W16EPR-U (DENSO)) and unscrew the spark plug.

Use a feeler gauge to measure the plug gap for the replacement spark plug. The gap should be 0.028 inches to 0.031 inches.

Place the spark plug where the old one used to be and use the spark plug wrench to tighten it in place. Put the spark plug case back in place.

Tips & Warnings
The air filter should be cleaned after every 50 hours of use or every three months (whichever comes first).
