Auto Alarm Installation Instructions

A car alarm can mean the difference between a stolen car or a caught criminal. Car alarms come in a plethora of types, so you have to tailor the general steps for car alarm installation to your specific vehicle and alarm system. Here's a logical progression for alarm installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult your vehicle's manual to locate the panels that allow access to the electrical wiring. These panels will be in the front of your vehicle. Unscrew and unclip different sections of the panel, depending on your vehicle.

    • 2

Wire the car alarm unit. Mount the unit inside the open panel. Of course, you want this location to be difficult to see. Consult your alarm's instructions for mounting directions. Common tasks include connecting wires to power an LED light, external antenna and valet switch. Connect wires by using electrical tape, soldering, heat shrinking or connectors.

    • 3

Install the alarm. Generally, alarms have positive and negative terminals. Wire the positive, or "hot" wire, to the positive terminal on the alarm. Place the other wire on the negative, or "ground" terminal. Drill a hole in your firewall, and pass the wires through it. Use tape to securely fasten the alarm to your vehicle. Try to have it face downward. Replace the panels, and you will have successfully installed your car alarm.
