How Can I Get My College Transcripts?

Copies of your college transcripts may be required for internship or job applications, graduate school admissions or scholarship applications. Each college or university has its own procedures and costs for requesting college transcripts. You may be able to print an unofficial copy from the college's website, or you may need to request an official copy from the college's registrar, depending on the requirements of the organization requesting a copy.

1. Verify the type of transcript that you need. If you only need to submit an unofficial transcript, log in to your university's student information system and print out a copy of your unofficial transcript.

2. Look up the office of the registrar for your university if you need an official transcript. Their information can usually be found on the college's website and in the university bulletin or catalog.

3. Locate the directions for requesting an official transcript. This is usually found on the university website as well.

4. Complete all required forms and submit them along with any fees to the office of the registrar. Follow the university's instructions, as some universities permit you to submit a transcript request online or by fax while others require that you do it in person or by mail. Allow enough time for the registrar to process your request.

Tips & Warnings

• Most universities will not release official transcripts if you have unpaid tuition bills, parking fines or library fees. Make sure you are in good financial standing with the university before requesting your transcript.
