English is one of the world's most used languages. In America, English is the main language, but many other places encourage learning English in order to communicate with others, both socially or in the business world. In addition to learning the language, you may want to master the American accent of English. There are software programs and classes that can teach you the American accent of English by helping you to practice words phonetically. You may also want to consider soliciting the help of American friends, as well as listening to and watching American media to find out how to learn the American accent of English.

1. Download a language software program such as Sephonics or Rosetta Stone. These language programs not only teach you how to read and spell the words in your new language, but the software speaks to you and listens as you repeat the words and phrases to help you with the correct pronunciation and accent.

2. Attend a class on learning the English language. Many American colleges and universities offer these types of conversational classes, and you may also want to consider checking with your local YMCA or community center for classes in conversational English. You will also probably receive instruction on how to spell American words correctly, which will help with your pronunciation.

3. Watch American movies and TV. Both of these types of media allow you to observe correct word usage and pronunciation for various words and phrases. Use DVDs or record your movies and TV shows on a DVR so you can stop the show and rewind to hear difficult phrases again.

4. Listen to talk radio. Talk radio can usually be found on at least one radio station at any time of the day. This type of unscripted English will give you a chance to hear how the English is used in an everyday manner with proper intonation and inflection.

5. Ask your American friends to be your accent coaches. When you are out with your friends, pay attention to how they use words in various situations and how they pronounce these words. Do your best to replicate your friends. Ask them to let you know when you are saying something out of context or not using the correct inflection. Consider asking one of them to tutor you on a weekly basis, maybe in exchange for you teaching them your native language.
