Instructions

  1. Making the Planter

      Wash and dry a 5-gallon bucket that has a wire or heavy plastic handle. These buckets are available at any hardware store.

      Drill a 1-inch hole in the bottom of the bucket using a hole-saw attached to the drill.

      Remove the tomato plant from its existing container and gently shake off any soil attached to the roots.

      Insert the roots of the tomato plant upward through the hole in the bottom of the bucket. Hold in place with one hand.

      Fill the bucket one-quarter full with a good quality potting soil.

    Hanging the Planter

      Find an area of your home or apartment that has a roof overhang or other high area that receives full sun.
