Choosing a Refrigerator
The refrigerator in your home will eventually break. Choosing a new refrigerator as a replacement may be a bit more difficult than you initially anticipated. Refrigerator manufacturers have made great technological leaps, and if you have a fridge that is 10 years old, you may be surprised at the selection of efficient models available. The right fridge for you depends on your needs and several other factors in the home. Going into the showroom with the proper information will help you choose the right model. Place a piece of cardboard in front of your old refrigerator and slide the fridge out onto the cardboard. This prevents the fridge from scratching the floor. Unplug your refrigerator.

Measure the area you have available for the refrigerator. Measure the width, depth and height of the refrigerator area.

Determine how many people you have in your home, on average, to determine the size of the refrigerator you need. Each person requires between 4 and 5.5 cubic feet of space.

Determine the types of food you commonly eat and find the average width of items you wish to put into the fridge. Buying a fridge too small for the items you commonly buy will become a headache.

Determine the door configuration you wish for your refrigerator, such as double doors, one door, freezer on the top or freezer on the bottom.

Find models that have the Energy Star rating on the label. Look for a model that has a high efficiency rating, with a low running cost.
