How to Convert a Plotter to a Sign Cutter

A plotter is a computer device used for printing graphics. It prints by moving a pen across the surface of paper, which makes it restricted to line art and text printing.   • Mechanical wrench
  • Swivel screw 6 inches long and 2 inches in diameter
  • 8-inch razor blade
  • Electric drill
  • 2 4-inch-long steel bolts

      Use a wrench and loosen the metal tube that connects the plotter pen to the arm. Unscrew the tube and remove it.

      Cut the ink tube that supplies the pen using scissors. You can throw the pen away.

      Use the scissors and remove the plastic ties that hold the ink tube to the plotter.

      Find the ink reservoir at the bottom of the plotter and remove it. This ink reservoir lifts out of the compartment easily. If it is held by plastic ties, cut these with the scissors and lift it out.

      Drill two 1-inch diameter holes into each side of the 6-inch swivel screw. Insert a razor blade into the screw and hold in place while you insert bolts into both drilled holes. Tighten the bolts using the wrench.

      Screw the swivel screw that has the blade attached into the valve on the plotter's arm. Tighten the screw with the wrench. The plotter is now a sign cutter.
