How to Troubleshoot a 2005 PT Cruiser
The base wagon trim of the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser was equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The PT Cruiser also included many different standard features such as 15-inch steel wheels, rear ventilation ducts, two one-touch power windows, front cup holders, power steering, a cargo area light and an intermittent rear window wiper. One way to find a problem with the PT Cruiser is to examine manufacturer recall information and see if any of it matches the problem you have with the vehicle.

1
Look at the headlamps of your PT Cruiser if the front portion of the vehicle is tough to see at night from a side view. The headlamps may be an aftermarket part that was manufactured by the Sabersport company and fails to conform to the federal motor vehicle safety standards put forth by the United States Department of Transportation. These headlamps did not include a required amber side reflector, which makes the PT Cruiser more difficult to see at night from the side. You should replace these headlamps to resolve this problem.

2
Make sure the nuts that hold the ball joint assemblies of your vehicle's suspension are still in place and properly tightened when the front tires do not turn properly when you turn the steering wheel. Your car may have a ball joint assembly that was built by Federal-Mogul Corp. Some of these assemblies did not come with the required prevailing torque self-locking feature, which prevents the assembly nuts from coming loose. If the nuts do fall off or become too loose, the front suspension will not respond to turns of the steering wheel.

Inspect the brake tubes of your PT Cruiser when the brakes feel soft, or it takes longer than it should to bring the vehicle to a stop when you are driving. The brake tube in the front left portion of the vehicle may not have enough clearance away from the transaxle housing unit. If the brake tube and transaxle housing unit come into contact with each other over an extended period of time, the braking tube may fail, which will cause a loss of braking power in the PT Cruiser. Take your PT Cruiser to a local Chrysler dealership to have a revised braking tube installed.
