How to Volunteer to Help Disabled Veterans in Need of a Home

Volunteers who want to help disabled homeless veterans can do so through by getting involved with a program sponsored by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, NCHV. The NCHV is a 501(c) nonprofit organization that supports a national network of community-based service providers that operate emergency and supportive housing programs for homeless veterans. The NCHV operates a toll-free homeless veterans assistance phone line and a comprehensive website to direct those who need help to the people who can provide it. Volunteers who want to help the NCHV can do so by volunteering with a community-based homeless veterans organization.

  Locate your local community-based homeless veterans support organization. Start your search by visiting the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans website to view their online directory of community-based organizations. You will need to provide state and city location information.

  Review the volunteer programs being offered by your local community-based homeless veterans support organization. For instance, you can volunteer to serve as a mentor, counselor or legal aid. Focus on those volunteer programs that will allow you help disabled veterans in need of a home.
