How to Troubleshoot Injection Plastic

Get your plastic produced with no more flaws.

Plastic injection is a process used to manufacture plastic molding. The most common place you will see plastic injection molding is in a store. This manufactured plastic is used to house products for sale. Problems can arise in the production process. Most of the problems that you will encounter can be fixed with just a few tweaks of your machinery. Once the issues are resolved, your plastic will be molded properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Increase the feed settings on your machine if you are getting inadequate shot capacity on your molding. Make sure you are using the correct plasticizing rate and use a larger machine if you need to get a better shot capacity.

    • 2

Raise the mold temperature if the material is freezing before your have a complete mold filling. Increase the injection speed on your machine and also increase the injection pressure. Increasing the injection time and making sure you have enough venting on your machine can also solve this problem.

    • 3

Check your machine for contamination or purge the machine if you are getting a melt fracture in your injection plastic. Raising the material temperature of the mold temperature can also help with a melt fracture.

    • 4

Look over the mold surface and make sure that you have flatness along the mold if you are getting mismatched faces on your molds. Make sure there are no deformities in your tools or that you don't have foreign objects in your mold.

    • 5

Decrease your injection speed and lower the material temperature on your machine if the melt viscosity is too low. The viscosity is the amount of flow the heated material has. Lowering the temperature will allow it to cool faster.

    • 6

Increase the cooling time if the material is not cooling properly. You can also decrease the mold temperature or decrease the material temperature.
