How to Fix a Water Dispenser
Many modern refrigerators include a water dispenser on the outside of the refrigerator door that provides an instant supply of chilled, filtered water. It's important you drink enough water during the day for good health, so it makes sense to fix your dispenser as soon as possible. Most problems are fixed by purging the pipes of trapped air and verifying that the water supply is properly connected. The location of relevant parts can differ depending on specific models of refrigerators. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Check that the control panel is unlocked. Most manufacturers install a lock or shutout control to their water dispensers so kids can't access water without parental supervision. Disable this feature by holding the "Lock" button for three seconds. The button may simply have a padlock symbol printed on it. The dispenser might not work unless the refrigerator door is closed.

2
Lock the control panel and clean the nozzle and sensor arm with a warm, soapy cloth. Drink splashes and residue will build up on the nozzle and sensor arm over time, deflecting the flow of water and stopping the arm from returning to the "Off" position when the glass is removed.

Straighten out any kinks in the water supply hose behind the refrigerator. Ensure the freezer isn't resting on top of the supply hose and the shutoff valve is in the open position. The shutoff valve is sometimes a lever in the supply hose or a faucet-like apparatus on the wall.

4
Stop leaks by purging trapped air from the water system. Run the dispenser into a bucket or large container in five-second blasts. Wait five seconds between each blast. Stop after two minutes and water plants with the contents of the container. The water dispenser should now work normally.
-
5
Remove the water filter and try the water dispenser again -- the filter needs to be changed if the water supply is improved. The filter is usually located against the back wall in the top-right corner of the refrigerator. Contact the manufacturer and quote your model number to order a suitable new filter.
