How to Replace the Heating Element on a Sears Electric Dryer

Sears produces a variety of dryers under their Kenmore brand name. All Sears Kenmore electric dryers use a heating element to control the temperature inside the dryer. Without the proper amount of heat, clothing inside the dryer will tumble but will take much longer to become dry. One possible sign of a faulty heating element is the dryer running but not getting hot inside. Replace a bad heating element to keep the dryer working properly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the power cord from the Sears Kenmore dryer to reduce the chance of electric shock.

      Remove the screws around the outer edge of the back panel. Lift the back panel off and away from the dryer cabinet.

      Unplug the wire connectors leading into the heating element assembly. The heating element assembly is a rectangular metal enclosure.

      Remove the screw holding down the strap on the top of the heating element assembly. Lift the assembly out of the Sears Kenmore dryer cabinet.

      Remove the screw on the bottom of the assembly. Slide the old heating element out.

      Insert the new heating element into the assembly. Replace the screw on the bottom of the unit.

      Replace the heating element assembly into the dryer. Install the screw into the strap on the top of the assembly. Plug the electrical connectors back into their sockets.

      Replace the back panel. Install the screws around the edge of the panel.
