How to Add Keyword Density & Links

How to Add Keyword Density & Links thumbnail
More links to your website can increase your search engine rankings.

Keyword density is the percentage of keywords or keyword phrases you use on a website in comparison to your overall word count. Keyword density affects your website's ranking on search engines. If you stuff your website with too many keywords, search engines may penalize or ban you. If you don't use enough relevant words, search engines may overlook you. So, balance is important. Keywords and relevant links work hand-in-hand to improve the ranking of your website. Search engines follow links to find other pages on your website.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the HTML file you want to edit in a text editor.

    • 2

Insert a title and meta tag between the <HEAD> tags as follows:

      <title>add a descriptive page title here</title>

      <meta name="description" content="add your page description here" />

    • 3

Add relevant keyword phrases naturally through the Web page, approximately every 100 words, and place them towards the top of your page.

    • 4

Add keywords to the headings and subtitles of your Web page. Spiders tend to place more emphasis on words in headings.

    • 5

Give your pages and images descriptive file names rather than generic names. If your Web page focuses on search engine rankings, name your page "search-engine-rankings.html" rather than "page2.html."

    • 6

Add links to keyword phrases that point to descriptive pages on your website, such as "<a href="exercise-for-health.html">Regular exercise is important for good health.</a>."

    • 7

Assign "nofollow" values to links you don't want Google to count towards a ranking. To assign a "nofollow" value to a contact page, for example, insert the following HTML code:

      <a href="contact.html" rel="nofollow">Contact Page</a>

    • 8

Add descriptive alternate tags to image links on your Web page, such as:

<img src="exercise-for-health.jpg" alt="Adequate sleep and regular exercise can improve your health." />

    • 9

Select "File" and "Save" from the menu to save your HTML file. To check the keyword density of your updated HTML page, use a keyword density tool, such as Keyword Density, Dot SEO or Link Vendor. The number differs between search engines, but should be between one percent and five percent.
