How to Cut a Vinyl Fence to Fit
Unlike other fences, which are built piece by piece, vinyl fences generally come with pre-assembled panels that you have to hang between your fence posts. If you install your posts using incorrect panel measurements, you will wind up unable to fit the panel in place. In order to get the vinyl panel in place, you'll have to cut the panel down to size and then ready the panel rails for installation. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the distance between your two fence posts. If your vinyl fence panel has rails that slide into the post, measure the distance between the center of each post; otherwise, measure from the edges of the posts.
-
2
Transfer that measurement to your vinyl panel. Start measuring from one edge of the panel, and make a pencil mark on the panel at the measurement point.

3
Place the panel on a table or a set of sawhorses and clamp it in place with the end that you marked hanging over the edge. Start your circular saw and move it over the pencil line, cutting the panel.
-
4
Move the panel between the posts. If any vertical board or picket on the panel will interfere with the panel attaching to the posts, cut off both ends of the vertical board with your circular saw. Certain types of vinyl panels may have the vertical boards or pickets screwed into place. In these cases, just remove the screws with a drill to remove the vertical board.

Tips & Warnings
If your vinyl panel rails are inserted into the posts, you will need to renotch the cut end. Just place the jaws of a notching tool where you need to make a notch and squeeze the handle. Most rails will require two notches on either side of the rail.
