How to Use Silicone Gel on a Bathtub Drain Flange
The bathtub flange helps to seal the bathtub drain tightly to the bathtub drain pipe underneath. These flanges are usually made of metal, although PVC is becoming a popular alternative. Silicone caulk gel is used to provide a watertight seal on the flange and prevent water from seeping into places where it shouldn't be. Using silicone gel on a bathtub drain flange is an excellent project for a DIY plumber looking to gain experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Clean out the bottom of the bathtub with a rag and bathroom cleaner. Pay special attention to the drain area. Remove as much mold, mildew and other bathroom debris as possible. This will help the silicone gel adhere better.

2
Insert the silicone gel into a caulk gun. Trim off the end at the 1/8 inch mark. If this silicone gel is in a dispenser tube, trim off the end with a sharp knife.
