How to Choose Software to Start a Shoe Store

Regardless of the size of the shoe store you are starting, you need to choose the right business software to operate and manage the store successfully. Point-of-sale (POS) processing, inventory and accounting are examples of operations that can be managed with software for stores.

Instructions

1. Select accounting software that can track the amount of outstanding invoices left to pay your shoe suppliers. Some POS systems integrate accounting, inventory, tracking and sales in one solution. For a smaller store this may be a viable option.

2. Choose a POS system that is able to track inventory in real time.

3. Pick software that is labeled "scalable." In most cases, it is better to buy software that is able to handle the future expansion of your shoe store. A POS system's database should be able to handle the data from a growing store's increasing inventory.

4. Talk to other business owners about their experience with the software you are interested in buying. Ask the owner about software glitches, crashes and its operational speed. Also ask whether the manufacturer's support system is responsive and solves issues quickly.
