How to Get Your High School Transcripts for Free

When applying to college, you are required to send your official high school transcripts as part of the application's supplementary materials. Some high schools will send transcripts to the colleges you are applying to for you, but in most cases you will have to pick up your transcripts to mail them. Many schools will print your transcripts for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your high school's main office and ask them to look up your records and print your official transcript. Be prepared to show your driver's license or other photo ID so that the administrator can verify your identity.

    • 2

Send a letter to your high school requesting a copy of your official transcripts if you are unable to request a copy in person. Include your name, dates you attended the school and social security number so the school can verify your identity. Print and sign your name at the end of the letter.

Find out if your school offers online services. Some schools offer online resources, including transcript requests, on websites like Edline.net. Complete the form online with your name, student ID number and the school or schools you want the transcripts to be sent to and submit the request.

Ask to waive the fee, if there is one, when requesting your transcript. Because public high schools are subsidized by the government, most transcripts will be printed for free.
