Keep tree resin off your patio furniture with an oil-based solvent.

Syroco has been making resin outdoor furniture for decades. Easy to care for and clean, it is designed for use outdoors. However, when not in use and especially off-season, keep your Syroco furniture indoors or covered. Like any outdoor furniture, Syroco is susceptible to weathering. And if placed under trees, falling resin can coat long-unattended chairs in rock-hard amber. Too hard to scrape off without damaging the resin underneath, you must first soften it with a solvent. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Coat the resin with an oil-based solvent. Dilla Maid's Cleaning Services recommends several store-bought and home remedies, including WD-40, vegetable oil, mayonnaise, Goo Gone and Goof Off. Rub it in to make sure that the resin is well saturated.

    • 2

Let the solvent sit for a few minutes, until the resin is softened.

    • 3

Wipe the resin away with a soft cloth. If all of the resin doesn't come off, keep reapplying the oil-based solvent.

    • 4

Rub mineral spirits into the resin if you make no more progress with the oil-based solvent. Allow it to sit for five minutes, then wipe. Repeat until the resin is gone.

    • 5

Wash the chair with soap, water and a nylon-bristle scrub brush once the resin is removed. This will clean away any residual solvent.
