How to Determine the Value of a 1968 Ford LTD
The Ford LTD started its life as a trim level for the 1965 Ford Galaxie 500. By the time the 1968 model rolled into production, the car became a model in its own right. The 1968 model is most similar to the previous 1967 model year with a few differences. These include a few minor cosmetic changes, as well as a change to a 302-cubic-inch engine as the default power plant. As with many classic cars, there are several steps you should take in determining the value of a 1968 Ford LTD.

1
Seek out others who are familiar with this generation of the Ford LTD. Those who actively buy, sell or appraise them will have the best idea of what yours is worth. Search for people familiar with the 1968 Ford LTD on car enthusiast forums. Check your local car enthusiast clubs for anyone with knowledge of the car. Browse through magazines for enthusiast magazines or search your local library for relevant articles or books.

2
Ascertain the condition of the car. The most common scale used by classic car enthusiasts has a range of five points that make up possible conditions (and thus value) of the car. These are, in order from best to worst, "Excellent" wherein the car is in perfect or near perfect condition cosmetically and mechanically, "Very Good" wherein the car might have a few cosmetic or mechanical defects that keep it from being top-rated, "Good" wherein the car may have some easily-repaired faults and could be easily restored, "Fair" wherein the car likely requires a moderate amount of repair (this category usually applies to cars that are cosmetically good-looking but have many mechanical faults) and lastly "Parts car" wherein the car would be very expensive/impossible to repair and is a source of parts only.

3
Check the production history of the car you are looking at to see if it is in any way unique. For example, it may have a rare option. On the other hand, it may be completely stock. This factor contributes to the car's rarity. The more rare the LTD you are looking at is, the more it will be worth.
-
4
Determine whether the car has been modified or customized in any way. The farther the car is from its original, factory condition, the less it is perceived to be worth. Customization tends to lower the value of classic vehicles.
-
5
Check for Ford LTD demand in the area. You can do this by checking local Kijiji or Craigslist pages, as well as auction sites and magazines. If there are many LTDs of that generation being sold in the area, their value will be less due to the increase in supply. However, the inverse is also true. If there are many "Wanted" ads seeking an LTD of that generation and few cars to fill that demand, the value will go up accordingly.
