How to Configure Quintum Tenor
The Tenor AS is a line of gateways between regular telephones and a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) data network. Quintum Technologies, Inc. manufactures the Tenor AS line of products. You can configure a Quintum Tenor to make and receive calls through an IP network.
Things You'll Need
- Computer with Tenor Configuration Manager software
- Administrator access to the Quintum Tenor
- Telephone
- Ethernet cable

Connect the telephone to the "FXS" port on the Quintum Tenor. Connect the Ethernet cable to the computer and to the "Console" port on the Quintum Tenor.

Double-click on the "Tenor Config Manager" icon on the computer's desktop to launch the Configuration Manager. Make a note of the IP address for the Quintum Tenor on your local network by accessing the list of current clients of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and locating the entry with the Medium Access Control address written on the Quintum Tenor's label. The details for this operation depend on the specific type of DHCP server on the network.

Enter the IP address for the Quintum Tenor, and the username and password for administrator access to the Quintum Tenor. The defaults are username "admin" and password "admin".

Select "Phone," then "Line(FXO)," then "Analog interface/line." Make sure all lines are enabled in the "FXO channel assignment" pane by clicking next to the list entry for each line until a check mark is visible. Click "OK."

Select "System-wide configuration," then "Dial plan." Enter your three-digit area code, and select "Use 10 digit local dial." Click "OK."

Select "VoIP Configuration," then "Gatekeeper/border element." Enter the IP address of the Quintum Tenor, then click "OK." Select "H323 signaling group", then "Gatekeeper/border element." Enter the IP address of the Quintum Tenor, then click "OK."

Obtain the current external IP address for your gateway to the general Internet by launching a web browser and navigating to "http://myipaddress.com". Select "Ethernet configuration", then "Ethernet interfaces," then "Ethernet interface-1." Enter the external IP address.

Select "File," select "Submit changes." The Quintum Tenor is ready for you to lift the phone off the hook and dial a conventional 10-digit phone number.
