How to Measure for a Door Pull

Door pulls are the hardware on the doors of cabinets in your kitchen or bathroom. A common way to upgrade your cabinets is to replace these door pulls with a different style, finish or color. You can change the door pulls by themselves or after refinishing cabinets. Because these pulls can be quite expensive, you will want to take accurate measurements when replacing the hardware on cabinets. Another thing to consider is replacing the hinges and knobs on other parts of the cabinets. This will help create a uniform look in your kitchen or bathroom.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Tape measure

Instructions

1. Open the door to expose the screws holding the door pulls to the cabinet door.

2. Unscrew the door pull from the door with a screwdriver.

3. Measure the door pull using a tape measure. Take measurements from the center of each hole where screws attach to the pull.

4. Shop for pulls with the same distance between screw holes, or door pulls that completely cover the old screw holes. If you select a pull with a shorter distance between the screw holes, you will see the holes in your cabinet doors.

5. Take the measurements with you to the home center, and take the old pull to match up with the new pulls.

Tips & Warnings

• The depth of the screws from your old hardware shouldn't matter unless your cabinet doors are particularly thick. Most door pulls come with a standard hardware in the package that work with a variety of door thicknesses.
