How to Make Nectar for a Hummingbird
Hummingbirds are small birds that are known for their ability to fly backward. According to the University of Vermont, hummingbirds can flap their wings between 53 and 70 times each minute. If you are interested in attracting hummingbirds to your property so you can observe them, make a batch of hummingbird nectar. Pour 8 cups of water into your pot. Add a little more water to account for water will evaporation.

Set the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Allow the water to boil for five minutes before removing it from the heat.

Measure 8 cups of water. You may have a little extra if any of the additional water you added didn't evaporate.

Stir 2 cups of sugar into the water until it dissolves. This is best done while the water is still hot.

Wait for the water to completely cool before adding it to your hummingbird feeder.

Tips & Warnings
According to Backyard Bird, this hummingbird nectar will last 14 days if refrigerated.
Do not add honey to your hummingbird nectar because it will ferment.
