How to Apply for an Income Tax Rebate
Income tax rebates allow you to reduce your tax debt to the Internal Revenue Service. If you do not have tax debt at the end of the year, you actually can get money refunded to you as part of your tax return. Applying for tax rebates is an automatic process that happens when you file your taxes, so it does not take any additional effort beyond filing. Even if you are not required to file a tax return, you should be sure to file if you think you will qualify for a rebate.

1
Obtain your Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1040 from the post office or from the IRS website. If you have a complex tax return, consider working with a tax professional to file your return.
-
2
Enter your personal information and income information on the first page of the 1040. Tax rebates often are geared toward a particular economic group, so your income will determine whether you get a rebate. You can find information about your wages on your W2, which should be mailed to you by your employer.
-
-
3
Answer questions about your tax credits and taxes you already have paid to further reduce your tax burden.
-
4
Sign the forms and return them to your local IRS refund processing center, along with your W2s. You should receive your refund, if you are owed one, and it will include your rebate.
