How to Create a Boot Disk for Windows XP Professional
Boot disks enable Windows users to troubleshoot issues. Boot disks are commonly mistaken for restore CDs. Boot disks do not restore or reinstall the Windows operating system. Instead, they allow you to boot from a source other than your hard drive, in case of boot failure.

Insert the floppy disk into the disk drive.

Click start. Open "My Computer."

Right-click the "A:" drive.

Click "Format."

Click the check box that says "Create an MS-DOS startup disk." Click "Start" and wait for the process to complete.
