Machine emboidery can save time.

Embroidery machines enable the user to create a wide range of decorative elements for wearable garments and home decor pieces. The Janome 350E sewing machine is an embroidery-only machine. With its 100 built-in designs and three fonts in memory, it can handle most jobs for home and hobby projects. Troubleshooting includes changing the needle and making sure the embroidery hoop is correctly in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the power to the embroidery machine off. Raise the needle to its highest position and lower the presser foot. Turn the needle clamp screw counterclockwise to loosen it and pull down to remove the old needle. Insert the new needle all the way into the clamp as far as it will go, with the flat side toward the back. Tighten the screw to set the needle in place by turning it clockwise.

Use the appropriate stabilizer for the fabric being embroidered. Stabilizers will help keep the embroidery in place during stitching and give strength to the fabric. Iron-on stabilizer works well with knits and is ironed on the wrong side of the fabric. Tear-away stabilizers work well with woven fabrics. Cut-away stabilizers are used with non-woven fabrics and need to be cut away from the embroidered design after stitching. Water-soluble stabilizers are for those fabrics that can be washed and dissolves when water is added.

Mark the center lines on the fabric of the area being embroidered with disappearing ink or a chalk pencil. Place the fabric being stitched onto the outer hoop. Place the inner hoop over it, and gently move the fabric to make sure the center lines of the fabric match the center of the hoop. Tighten down the hoops slightly when the fabric is in place.

    • 4

Place the desired template over the fabric. Use the proper enclosed templates that correspond to the built-in designs. Adjust the fabric by moving it if needed to ensure all the lines match up, then lift the template away. Tighten the hoops all the way down.

    • 5

Attach the embroidery hoop by turning the attaching knob on the machine to make it parallel with the hoop. Fit the pins on the hoop to the carriage holes, then turn the attaching knob clockwise. The machine is ready to embroider.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place the fabric inside the embroidery hoop on a flat surface for best results and to ensure a tight and even fit with the hoop.

  • Dull and bent needles will greatly distort the stitches. Always begin machine embroidery with a straight, sharp needle for best results.

  • Allow space for the embroidery hoop when sewing as the embroidery carriage and hoop will move during sewing.

  • Never touch the carriage while it is moving.
