Turbo Charging Made Easy
PC gaming is at its best when the action is fluid and smooth. When your PC is bogged down with unneeded open programs, some running without your knowledge, and using outdated hardware, your PC's resources are drained. This leaves you with choppy, subpar gameplay, ruining your experience. By "turbo charging" your PC, you can free-up resources towards your games and increase the speed at which your computer runs.

1
Press and hold the "Windows" key on your keyboard followed by the "R" key. Type in MSConfig.exe into the field. Click "Continue." Click the "Startup" tab. This is the list of programs that start automatically as your computer starts, and many are unneeded. Unclick the box next to any program you don't want to run automatically and click "Ok." As a general rule, any program by Microsoft should not be unchecked. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
-
2
Turn off any anti-virus or malware detection programs while you game to free-up processor resources. On that subject, also perform a virus/malware scan of your computer routinely and delete any virus or malware you find, as any malicious files have a detrimental effect on your computer.

3
Verify that your firewall is allowing any multiplayer game access to the Internet. Without doing so, your online gameplay may be choppy at best, or refuse to connect at worst. As every firewall is different, consult your firewall's documentation for specific instructions on how to do this.
-
4
Update your hardware's drivers, such as your video card or sound card drivers. Drivers are provided free of charge from the website of your hardware's manufacturer. Having outdated drivers may cause sluggishness and lower quality to occur in your PC games.
-
5
Close any open programs before you begin your PC game. Programs such as Internet browsers or music software will use a substantial amount of processor resources, so closing them will allow your computer to focus more processing power on your game.
-
6
Calibrate your monitor's display settings to ensure an optimal picture. Click the Windows Orb located on the taskbar. Click "Control Panel." Select "Hardware And Sound," "Display" and "Calibrate Color." Your computer will automatically create and use the best display settings for your computer.
