If you need to replace the rear seat belts in your Toyota Camry, you can buy new assemblies from a Toyota dealer, aftermarket supplier or get a used set from a salvage yard. If your belts are worn or frayed, the locking mechanism doesn't hold or the belt retractor doesn't function correctly, it is a good idea to replace them. If the seat belts do not function properly and your car is involved in a collision the occupants could be seriously injured.

Step 1

Locate and remove the four mounting bolts along the front edge of the lower seat cushion. The bolts can be easily removed with a socket and ratchet.

Step 2

Lift the front of the seat cushion and pull it forward. Remove the cushion from the car for better access to the seat belts.

Step 3

Locate the retaining bolts holding the shorter anchor belt to the floor. Remove the bolt with a socket and ratchet. Remove the anchor belts from the car.

Step 4

Locate the anchor bolt on the side wall near the floor for the shoulder belts. Remove it with a socket and ratchet.

Step 5

Move up to the top of the shoulder belt and locate the turning loop bracket. Remove the plastic trim cover and remove the bolt under it with a socket and ratchet. Remove the turning loop bracket from the side wall.

Step 6

Locate the retaining bolt that holds the belt retractor to the sidewall. Remove the bolt with a socket and ratchet then remove the belt retractor. Remove the entire belt assembly from the car.

Step 7

Install the new anchor belts by placing the bracket on the end of the belt on the floor and installing the mounting bolt. Tighten the bolt with a socket and ratchet.

Step 8

Install the new shoulder belts by aligning the anchor loop with the hole in the sidewall near the floor and installing the mounting bolt. Tighten it with a socket and ratchet. Install the turning loop bracket and mounting bolt up on the side wall near the roof. Tighten the bolt with a socket and ratchet.

Step 9

Position the belt retractor in the spot that you removed the old one from and align the mounting holes. Insert the mounting bolt and tighten it with a socket and ratchet.

Step 10

Torque each mounting bolt in the seat belt system to 32 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Install the rear bottom seat cushion and insert the four mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet then torque to 14 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.
