Caulking windows can help save energy costs.

Windsor Windows and Doors is a company headquartered in Iowa that manufactures doors and windows. One of the last steps when installing your new Windsor windows is caulking the windows. Applying caulk over the joints and in the gaps helps prevent leaks and saves you money on energy costs. Caulking can also prevent water damage by preventing water from leaking through the gaps.

Instructions

    • 1

Load a caulk gun with silicone caulk by pulling the plunger back and dropping the tube into the caulk gun. Repeatedly pull the trigger until the plunger comes into contact with the tube of caulk. Cut the nozzle along the bottom at a 45-degree angle, and insert a nail or screwdriver into the nozzle to break open the seal.

    • 2

Place the tip of the nozzle against the upper corner of the joint between the window frame and the wall. Squeeze the trigger slowly, and pull the caulking gun across the joint with a smooth, even motion. When you squeeze the trigger all the way in, lift the nozzle up and release the trigger. Place the nozzle at the spot you stopped and continue to apply the caulk.

    • 3

Caulk the sides and bottom of the window frame, using the same method.

    • 4

Caulk the outside of the window, using the same method as you used for the interior.
