How to Install a Gallery Remote

Gallery Remote is a web-based photo gallery application available for use on your website. Gallery Remote is a Java-based application and you will need your web server to be running Unix or Linux to install it. Once installed it means you can allow your readers to set up accounts and upload their own images to your web gallery. It also acts as a useful web gallery host if you just want to use it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Gallery Remote from the main website. If your web server already has the Java Virtual machine installed get the "JVM not included" download, otherwise get the included version.

    • 2

Double-click the download and extract the files to a temporary location. Upload these files to your web server using FTP. If you have not got an FTP client installed, click "Start > Computer." Then "Map Network Drive." Enter the FTP address, click "Next," enter your login details and then click "Finish." This will map a drive to your FTP.

    • 3

Create a folder inside the main Gallery Remote folder entitled "var." Chmod this directory to "777" using your FTP client (or server administrator panel if using Windows).

    • 4

Open your web server's admin pages, click "MySQL." Create a new database. Create a memorable name, user name and password combination

    • 5

Navigate to your web site, and add "gallery3" to the end of the web address. This will open the admin creation page. Enter your MySQL details, click "Continue." Click "Start using Gallery Now." You have now set up your Gallery Remote.
