How to Adjust Polaris Phoenix Brakes
A small sport ATV meant for older teenagers and small adults, the Polaris Phoenix needs regular inspection and maintenance to perform at its best. The brakes are one particular system to which owners should pay attention. Polaris recommends that owners leave the maintenance and adjustment of the front brakes up to a certified dealer. However, the company does provide instructions in the Phoenix owner's manual for adjusting the Phoenix's rear brakes.
Instructions

1
Measure the amount of rear brake lever travel. The rear brake lever is located on the left handlebar of the Phoenix 200. If handle travel is 2.5 inches or more, the rear brakes should be adjusted.
-
2
Park the Phoenix on level ground and turn the ATV off.
-
-
3
Block off the front wheels with cinder blocks to prevent the quad from rolling during rear brake adjustment.
-
4
Elevate the rear end of the vehicle slightly with more cinder blocks or another suitable support. The rear wheels should not touch the ground.
-
5
Tighten the hand brake wing nut with an adjustable wrench while slowly turning the wheel with your hands. The hand brake wing nut is located on the inside of each rear tire. When you feel resistance or drag on the turning of the wheel, stop tightening the hand brake wing nut and loosen the wing nut one full turn. Perform this process for both rear tires.
-
6
Locate the foot brake wing nut, adjacent to the hand brake wing nut on the inside of each rear tire. Slowly tighten this wing nut as well until the connected foot brake arm lever starts to move. Then loosen the foot brake wing nut half a turn. Repeat this process for the other rear tire.
-
7
Measure the brake lever travel once more and ensure that it is less than 2.5 inches. Remove the Phoenix from the cinder blocks.
-
8
Ensure brake responsiveness at slow speeds before regular Phoenix operation.
