How to Mount Side Rails on a Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is designed to be taken off road and in the process, it can get beaten up. One way to protect the side of the Jeep from damage is to install a set of tubular side rails to the Jeep. Instructions

    • 1

Lie down underneath the Jeep and locate the square holes in the underside of the chassis between the motor mounts that have holes flanking each side. Insert the nut clips through the square hole so the threaded end of the clip is inside the body and the holes are aligned.

    • 2

Install the mounting brackets included in the kit so that one of the posts on the mount is aligned with the nut clips and the other two are aligned with holes in the rockers. Install the bolts and nuts from the kit onto the mounting hardware using just your hands.

    • 3

Hook the second set of mounting brackets onto the first set using your hands. Lift the side tubes up onto the mounting brackets and bolt them in place using the hardware from the kit.

    • 4

Align the side tubes against the body so that they look correct, then tighten down the mounting hardware with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Torque down the bolts on the side tubes to 8 foot-pounds with the 3/8-inch torque wrench, and the bolts on the mounting brackets to 16 foot-pounds with the 3/8-inch torque wrench.
