How to Mount Carpet Vertically on Walls
There's no law that specifies that carpets must go on the floor. Hanging carpet from the wall instantly insulates a room, making it seem cozier and helps to eliminate any drafts or cold spots. A carpet wall is also a unique way to add color and texture to a room in your home. Use a hanging carpet above your bed as a soft replacement for a headboard or as an alternative to wallpaper. Select colors or patterns that contrast or complement your decor. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Run your tape measure across the length and width of your wall. Write down these measurements. Your dimensions of carpet will have to be smaller than these measurements; however, how much smaller is completely up to you. Experiment by drawing chalk lines on your wall where the carpet could begin and end. When you find a size that you like, measure the dimensions and write them down.

2
Cut your carpet to your desired dimensions with a carpet cutter or blade.

3
Stand on a step ladder and position your carpet within the boundaries of your chalk outline. Pull back the fibers at the top center edge of the carpet and nail in a small carpet tack. Repeat this process with the top right and left corners.
-
4
Get down from your step stool and walk back a few yards. Your carpet should look level and not crooked. Make any necessary adjustments.
-
5
Climb back on your step stool and nail in another carpet tack to the area directly between the tack in the top left corner and the center tack. Nail in another tack to the area directly between the center tack and the top right corner.
-
6
Smooth out the right edge of the carpet with your hand and nail in another carpet tack every 2 to 3 inches. Be sure to pull back the carpet fibers before you nail in a certain spot so you don't damage your carpet. Repeat this process with the left edge of the carpet.
-
7
Smooth out the bottom of the carpet and nail in a carpet tack to the center and then the right and left bottom corners. Insert a nail in between the bottom left corner and the center tack and the bottom right corner and center tack.
