How to Remove a Generic Dropper
The generic dropper is a Trojan horse virus program. It attaches to seemingly harmless programs, such as updates or scripts required to access or view a website or email. Currently four forms of the generic dropper virus exist: generic dropper.gi.gen, generic dropper.hs, generic dropper.js, and generic dropper.lr. General virus scan programs remove this virus from programs and file folders, but the generic dropper program also replicates itself to the C:\_Restore folder. In order to completely remove a generic dropper from a computer, disable the system restore utility before restarting the computer.

Run the anti-virus software installed on the computer.

Check the list of threats removed from the computer. As the anti-virus software locates and neutralizes suspect or dangerous programs, it creates a list of the file names. Verify the software identified a generic dropper file.

Disable the system restore utility and restart the computer, to completely expunge a generic dropper file from the system.

Click the "Start" button.

Hold the mouse pointer over the "My Computer" icon on the pop-up window and right-click. Select "Properties" from the menu.

Select "System Protection" from the menu on the left side of the Properties window.

Select a hard drive from the menu and click the "Configure" button below the menu.

Click the radio button next to "Turn off system protection" and then click "Apply."

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for all hard drives.

Restart the computer. This will remove any copies of the generic dropper Trojan previously stored in the restore files.

Repeat Steps 1 through 4.

Click the radio button next to "Restore system settings and previous versions of files." This will ensure the computer creates future restore points.

Repeat for all hard drives.

Select "Control Panel" from the pop-up window.

Select "System and Maintenance" from the Control Panel.

Choose "System" and then "System Protection" from the menu options.

Uncheck the boxes next to each hard drive listed under "Create restore points automatically on the selected disks." A pop-up window will appear, asking you to confirm your decision. Click "Turn System Protection Off."

Click "Apply."

Restart the computer. This will remove any copies of the generic dropper Trojan previously stored in the restore files.

Repeat Steps 1 through 4: Then recheck each of the hard drives you unchecked in Step 5. This will restore system protection on the computer.

Back up any crucial files before restarting the computer without the system restore utility. Any lost information cannot be recovered.
