Close the entrance door and look at the inside of it to locate the three hinges that attach it to the door frame.

    • 2

Insert a knife blade or a flat-head screwdriver under the pin in the top of the uppermost hinge. Press upward to loosen the pin until it starts to pull up out of the hinge.

    • 3

Grasp the pin with a pair of pliers and pull it the remainder of the way out of the hinge. Set the hinge aside, or put it in your pocket.

    • 4

Repeat the pin-removal process with each of the remaining hinges until all pins are removed.

    • 5

Open the door slightly and grasp the knob side with one hand. Lift up slightly to shift the hinges out of place. Grab the side of the door where the hinges are located with your other hand, and pull the entrance door away from the door jamb.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have trouble removing the hinge pins, insert the screwdriver in the bottom of the hinge and tap the head of it with a hammer to dislodge the pin.
