How do I Repair a Spin Cycle on a Kenmore Washing Machine?

The spin cycle on your Kenmore washing machine is a partner to the washing machine's draining function. This means that if the washer doesn't spin, it also will not drain. Similarly, if the washer does not drain, it will not spin. Getting the spin cycle to operate properly is important if you want for your clothing to come out of the washer and be fully washed, but not dripping wet.

Instructions

1. Remove the drain hose from the drain pipe and lightly hang the U-shaped portion of the end of the hose back on the drain pipe. Don't push the drain hose into the pipe. Cramming the hose into the pipe doesn't allow for an air gap in the system. Without an air gap, water cannot correctly flow from the washer, thus not allowing the washer to spin as it should.

2. Plug the washer directly into a working wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord, as this will reduce the amount of voltage your washer receives. Check your home's breaker box to see if the washer breakers are switched to the "On" position. If there was a power surge, these breakers could have flipped to "Off" in the middle of a cycle.

3. Wait a few minutes for the suds routine to finish if "Sud" is displayed on your front panel. This display indicates that there was too much detergent placed in the washer, so the washer is now working on removing the extra suds. Spinning will commence when the suds are removed.

4. Add more items to the load if only one item is inside the machine. Remove a few articles of clothing from the washer if it is stuffed full. Too much or not enough clothing will cause the washer not to be able to spin correctly because it is not properly balanced inside the drum.
